The Macedonian Energy Forum was held on May 16-17 in Struga for the second time. Prime Minister Zoran Zaev solemnly opened the MEF.

The main topic of the forum was the energy transition in the world, as well as the challenges of its application in North Macedonia, which were discussed by Deputy Prime Minister Kocho Angjushev, Director of the European Energy Community – Mr. Janez Kopac, Mr. Marko Radulovic and Mr. Javid Zaric.

MEF delegates were briefed on the steps taken by the Government of North Macedonia to gradually switch to clean energy sources through the use of environmentally friendly sources of water, sun and wind in order to gradually reduce the use of coal as an energy source.

In discussing the regional challenges in gas supplies, Mr. Sotirios Nikas, Senior Advisor to the CEO of DESFA, Greece briefed on the preparation of a visibility study to link Macedonia and Greece to the pipeline. According to current plans, this pipeline should start construction in June 2021.
